Causes of Cervical Spondylosis
In medical term, the neck is called cervical region. The first seven bones of spinal chord consist of the neck. When the neck muscles get stiff due to irregular blood circulation it can lead to degenerative changes in the upper spine. Decaying of bones may compress nerves causing immense pain.
Stiff neck, as well as change in the curve of the spinal cord may cause severe neck pain. Loss of normal curvature of spine i.e. loss of lordosis is one of the causes for cervical spondylosis. The space in between spinal cord is termed as inter vertebral space. Due to some degenerative changes, the inter-vertebral space gets reduced, resulting in spondylosis.
Even the young get affected by shoulder and neck pain. Students going to school have to carry bags, loaded with books and as a result, the pain radiates from the lower back portion up to the neck.
Related Medical Terms
The neck may suffer from degenerative arthritis. Cervical spondylosis is also termed as cervical spondyloarthritis. When the pain is limited within the neck region, it is termed as cervicalgia. If the pain radiates down to the fingers of the hands i.e. distal points, it is known as secrialgia.
If the pain affects the lower back, it is referred to as Lumbar Spondylosis. Spondylosis is also known as spinal osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis occurs due to age. When the space in between two bones gets reduced, it is known as diminished or diffused bones. When the bones get decayed, it is termed as osteophytosis or liping. When the bones get thinner, we call it porotic change. Ankylosing spondylitis or bamboo spine another degenerative change in the spine.
